It is now 21 years since the Pod prototype rolled out of the workshop and 19 years since the first planning permission was granted for a group of 10 Pods on a site in the Lake District National Park – a development and concept that within a few years had literally migrated around the planet!
The design copyright and branding, ‘The Original Pod’ is owned by Ian Bone a former civil engineer who established Newfoundland Lodges Ltd. back in 2004.
It has been something of a journey and truly amazing how the original basic wooden Pod has evolved into the cosy, well equipped, self-catering accommodation demanded by the glampers of this world as well as many variants on the theme – boutique hotel rooms, staff accommodation, independent living, even ‘time out’ rooms for schools. It is however interesting to note that half the company’s production is still the basic (but bigger) camping hut.
Our market is currently the whole of the UK with a few going over to Ireland but otherwise Brexit saw off our export business into Europe.
Over the years we supplied Pods to many wonderful customers who bought into the concept and revolutionised the experience and enjoyment of very many happy campers.
The Pod may now be regarded as ‘part of the furniture,’ however our innovative and flexible approach to small space engineering will undoubtedly serve us well for another 21 years.
