Making Renewable Energies Competitive

Industrial Solutions is incredibly pleased to feature Spanner RE² GMBH as its highly regarded Renewable Energy Expert of the Year (2016).

Operational in seven countries, Spanner Re² is a German-based business that focuses on making the most out of residual wood in an efficient and money-saving manner. Located in Neufahrn/Landshut, the brand forms part of Otto Spanner GmbH and was established in 2004 with the set purpose to excel in the field of innovative and economically attractive regenerative power generation technologies.

Founders Helmut Spanner and Thomas Bleul aimed to address the gap in the market for pellet boilers and, having progressed significantly since its humble beginnings, the group now comprises 56 skilful employees renowned for their commitment to producing Biomass CHP’s for customers with a high heat demand. Diversifying from the automotive market into the renewable energy arena was a strategic business move that led to the team selling their first wood gasification unit in 2008.

The manufacturer operates out of two business units: the Spanner Re² wood cogeneration plant, which impressively generates heat and electricity with its proprietary technology, and an all-encompassing biomass heating system production facility that manufactures and distributes pellet and wood chip heating systems, wood furnaces and tiled stove insets.

From these premises the team can effectively service its ever-growing customer base, which comprises hundreds of companies across Europe, Asia and North America. Their extensive suite of products, which has been granted ‘advanced gasification’ classification by OFGEM in the UK, has received much interest from agricultural and forestry businesses, hotels, restaurants and heat grids (to name a few examples).

Spanner Re² produces advanced complete biomass heating systems for several major heating system manufacturers (such as Buderus, Brunner, KWB, and Wolf). Its notable Biomass CHP System cleverly converts natural wood chips into biomass electricity and heat in order to save the customer money whilst providing increased power yields whilst taking into consideration aspects such as the selected location and legal conditions.

The newest innovation is a combined wood gasification unit, cogeneration unit and intelligent control centre for heat and electricity generation. Titled EnergyBlock, this particular product has received positive feedback from customers, with reference being made to its fast start-up, compact structure, customisable and coordinated qualities and of course, its capability to be fired with wood chips, pellets and briquettes.

Spanner Re² has experienced success on an international scale and its latest achievement relates to its wood cogeneration plants being commissioned for the first time outside Germany; as the sought-after plants can now be located in Italy, Austria and Slovakia. The environmentally-conscious enterprise is also heavily involved with project development and has used its knowledge of renewable resources to engage in schemes to benefit wildlife as well as future generations. For example, the suitably named LifeCO2 project strives to support reforestation in South Africa; helping to provide a natural habitat for animals and plants in Uganda whilst capturing CO2 emissions.

If you wish to enquire about a decentralised wood cogeneration plant, turnkey pellet heating system or complete solution for the purpose of drying wood chips, or if you would like any further information about the company itself, Spanner Re² can be contacted via telephone or email.
