Biopharma Group was established in 1989 as suppliers of high quality equipment and services to the process industries that employ freeze drying and associated technologies. As world renowned experts in their field, Biopharma boasts clients large and small across the globe, which has led to dedicated divisions being established in the UK, Ireland, France and USA. They specialise in freeze drying technologies, solvent removal products, high pressure homogenisers as well as other assistive and related processing industry equipment. Biopharma pride themselves on being able to supply products that suit the specific and individual needs of their clients, whilst remaining on hand for advice and assistance post-purchase with highly experience technical maintenance teams based in the UK, Ireland and France. When it comes to process equipment, Biopharma can provide everything from volumetric powder filers and rotary vial washers to full aseptic processing lines including trayloaders, capping machines and aseptic fillers. As just one example, the range of sterilising ovens are highly regarded for their ability to sterilise and depyrogenate pharmaceutical glass containers quickly and efficiently.
In 2017, Biopharma added a new division to the group. Based in the Republic of Ireland, BPS Crowthorne is focused on offering an array of services including equipment products, R&D consultancy, training courses and lab services, alongside the synergetic services from sister company, Crowthorne Hi-Tec Services, including cleanroom, clean air and containment facility validation, servicing and air flow spare parts. Biopharma also extended their distributorship for Genevac products throughout Ireland too, allowing more clients access to their highly sought after products.
In 2018, Biopharma Group continues to expand its range in terms of geographic coverage by becoming the European distributors for Cuddon Freeze Dry and Kinematics & Controls Corp. in response to the growing trend toward freeze drying in the food production industry. They also continued to expand the products/services range including specialist analytical instruments that have been developed to address sample volume, small scale testing and lyo-cake issues that the firm is aware their client-base has issues with and to improve overall user experience.
Biopharma Group is at the forefront of analytical instrument technology development having launched the most advanced freeze-drying microscope (FDM), the Lyostat5 with its unique tilt-back imaging station for easy sample loading, and the Lyotherm3 frozen state solution analyser which provides the most accurate data relating to critical event stages to optimise the efficiencies of the freeze drying process. In addition to this, Biopharma is currently in the process of collaboratively developing some modular bolt-ons and new analytical equipment that is scheduled to start being introduced to the market from the end of 2018.
Another product is also going to be added to the freeze dryer range, namely the Lyocapsule for small scale production and testing that can be used in conjunction with TDLAS and ControLyo software, as well as the LyoConstellation for scale up and/or down.
When looking at the developments in the wider pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging market, Biopharma Group has seen a large increase in demand for post-lyo process analysis, rather than purely pre-lyo analysis. With this in mind, Biopharma has purchased a DVS (Dynamic Vapour Sorption) system for the lab to assist in post-process analysis, which will be hugely beneficial for the food processing industries who are particularly interested in moisture analysis and reconstitution.
